This project involved the transformation of a 1970s commercial tower in Sydney’s Martin Place into a top-tier sustainable office space. Due to height restrictions from the Local Environment Plan, replacing the outdated 20-storey tower wasn’t considered feasible which resulted in the original structure being retained and a heavy refurbishment strategically planned and delivered.
The process began by stripping the building down to its steel core and safely removing hazardous asbestos in the process. Following demolition works, the commercial tower was rebuilt with a new, high-performance, eco-friendly façade, setting a new standard for energy efficiency in commercial buildings.
With many cities filled with underperforming older buildings, 20 Martin Place showcases the potential to turn an ordinary 1970s structure into a high-performing 6 Star Green Star building, ready to meet the demands of today’s tenants.
